DAY 01: ARRIVE AUCKLAND
 ITINERARY:
Welcome to Auckland, the “City of Sails”. A cosmopolitan and culturally diverse city. After immigration formalities, meet & greet on arrival and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Enjoy time at leisure today. Buffet dinner at Fortuna Restaurant is included. (D)

 

DAY 02: AUCKLAND – MATAMATA – ROTORUA
One of the most famous was that of The Shire, home to the plucky hobbits, and while filming has finished, today you can still visit The Shire and see where the movie magic was created. Tucked away on picturesque private farmland near the small town of Matamata in the North Island’s Waikato region is the Hobbiton Movie Set, which draws visitors from around the world for guided Hobbiton tours to see the famous Hobbit holes, along with the Mill and The Green Dragon and other sights you’ll recognise from the films. Continue your journey to Rotorua and we make our way to Te Puia, one of New Zealand’s foremost cultural venues. At Te Puia’s marae (meeting house) you will receive a traditional welcome and be invited to experience a Māori cultural performance Te Po, in which ancient and modern stories are told through song, dance, poi and stick games. You’ll gain an understanding of this unique culture and its history and be thoroughly entertained by the talented and charismatic performers. (BLD)

 

DAY 03: ROTORUA – CHRISTCHURCH
Discover of Rotorua’s best visitor attractions on this morning Rotorua sightseeing tour. See our agricultural industry in action at the Agrodome, a working organic farm where you can find out all about farming life in New Zealand, watch a sheep shearing display and see sheepdog trials where the hard-working farm dogs show off their amazing skills. Continue your journey to visit Rotorua Lakefront, Historical Gov’t Gardens for photo stop. Buffet Lunch is included. After lunch, private transfer to Rotorua airport for flight into Christchurch. DAY 04: CHRISTCHURCH – ASHBURTON – MT. COOK
Discover the fascinating history of Christchurch on a city sightseeing tour. Take in the sights of the central city and its surrounds and see how this beautiful city is recovering from the devastating 2011 earthquake. Experience the natural beauty of Hagley Park, the Avon River and Botanic Gardens, visit the Cardboard Church which replaces the city’s historic Cathedral. If time permits, visit the START mall, an innovative development created entirely out of shipping containers! Continue your journey to Ashburton and to Mt. DAY 05: MT. COOK – QUEENSTOWN
The tour continues south, past Lake Pukaki and through the tawny tussock of the Mackenzie Country. En route, enjoy afternoon tea (own expense) in the quaint village of Omarama and if time permits, visit the Jones Family Orchard near Cromwell. Your tour concludes in the evening upon reaching Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. Travel up the Queenstown Hill and enjoy spectacular bird’s-eye views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables. Your friendly local driver guide will provide entertaining and informative commentary throughout your tour. Discover the secrets of bungy-jumping with a behind-the-scenes tour of AJ Hackett’s world-famous Bungy Bridge and watch the jumpers from the viewing deck. Visit the award-winning Gibbston Valley Winery, founded by a pioneer of the Central Otago wine industry, and sample a selection of wines produced on site. You can also browse the winery’s well-stocked gift shop and the region’s only cheesery. Have your camera at the ready as you are transported into Middle-earth at the Kawarau Gorge, film location for the ‘Pillars of the Kings’ in The Lord of the Rings. DAY 06: QUEENSTOWN – MILFORD SOUND – TE ANAU
Take an unforgettable journey into the heart of Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most famous tourist destination. You’ll experience the world famous fiord in all its natural glory – surrounded by dense rainforest, glacier-carved valleys, and beautiful waterfalls. Leaving Queenstown, travel in comfort along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and into southern farmland to Lake Te Anau, the largest lake in the South Island. After a morning tea stop (own expense), travel along the lake and into Fiordland National Park. Enter the picturesque Eglinton Valley, a place of ancient alpine forest and gushing waterfalls and one of only a few road accessible glacier valleys in New Zealand, and take advantage of the photo opportunities on offer along the Milford Road, like the stunning Mirror Lakes, where on a calm day the surrounding mountain ranges are perfectly reflected in the still waters, and Knobs Flat, where glaciers have carved their mark on the terrain. Your glass-roof coach will provide amazing views of the dramatic skyline as you cross the Main Divide of the Southern Alps, with stunning mountain peaks all around. Stop at Monkey Creek and sample some of the purest water in the world (but watch out for cheeky kea – native mountain parrots!). Travel under the mountains through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2km passageway drilled into solid rock, then experience The Chasm, a short but impressive walk over footbridges spanning a series of powerful, swirling waterfalls and rapids. At Milford Sound, board your 1 hour 45 minute Southern Discoveries Scenic Cruise and set off to explore the region that Rudyard Kipling called the Eighth Wonder of the World. Travel the length of the fiord and out to the Tasman Sea, gliding past glacier-scarred rock walls and waterfalls that tumble through valleys and crash into the sea far below. Lush native forest clings to steep cliffs, while wildlife including seals, penguins and dolphins are regular visitors to the icy waters. Mountain ranges surround the fiord, including Mitre Peak which rises dramatically from the depths to a height of 1,692 metres above sea level. Along the way your captain will provide lively and informative commentary. Your cruise will take place on a modern, purpose-built catamaran with large viewing windows, outdoor decks, panoramic views and warm indoor seating. Day 07: TE ANAU – DUNEDIN CITY TOUR – AUCKLAND
